For the carpenter bees just to make sure should I use the 1/2″ cork or the plastic plugs? Does it matter?

Chris,

It does. The plastic plugs have chemicals in them which degrade the dust. So the best option is the natural cork with Demize dust, we’ve found these treatments can remain stable for 1-2 yrs. When plastic is used, the dust breaks down 25% faster.
